A few years after her husband King Henry IV passed away, Maria de’ Medici, Queen of France, got nostalgic of her past life in Florence at the Pitti Palace and ordered architect Salomon de Brosse with the construction of a new palace in Florentine style in Paris.

The Palace Garden, now known as the Luxembourg Garden, was born and laid out in similar flair to imitate the Boboli Garden in Florence. To complete the romantic picture and to respond to the whims of the Queen, a wonderful fountain had been built, standing in the middle of the garden.

There is something narcissistic yet romantic and elegant about the Medici Fountain topped with the Medici coat of arms and decorated with allegorical statues.
