Past, Present, and… “Pasquetta”!

hospital de los inocentes florenciaConstructed by Brunelleschi in 1419, the Hospital Of the Innocents (Ospedale degli Innocenti) was responsible for the protection of abandoned or orphaned children of Florence, a function that renders the building socially significant as well as architecturally striking.  Orphaned children brought up in the Ospedale were given the surname “Innocenti” (which is where the surname still found today dates back to). This Saturday, April 4th, the Bottega dei Ragazzi, an organization based at the Ospedale dedicated to educating children on art and history, will be running an art workshop in honor of Easter, “Pasquetta.” In the workshop, kids will get to go on a treasure hunt for details in the artistic works conserved at the Ospedale, and will get to assemble their own works of art based on what they find. Celebrate the past, present, and “pasqua” all in one.
